My Playmaker #2

THE PLAYMAKER GROUP’S Debbie Gayle is up next to pick her playmaker…Dame Dash.

I have always found massive inspiration from the whole Roc-A-Fella movement. Everyone knows I am a massive Jay-Z fan but I also have a huge respect for Roc-A-Fella co-founder Damon Dash.

For some time there has been a negative narrative surrounding Dame Dash but in my opinion he is the true definition of a playmaker.

With Dame as the day-to-day leader, Roc-A-Fella became a dynasty and without him there maybe wouldn’t be a Jay-Z, or a Cam’Ron, a Kanye West, Kevin Hart, Lee Daniels or many more. Dame has been an advocate for black culture way before it was cool to “do it for the culture”. He has taken pride and in ownership and stuck to a code of honour while being militant about cultural independence, authenticity and fair compensation in what can be an exploitative industry.

The definition of a PLAYMAKER IS: “a player in a team game who brings other players on the same side into a formidable position from which they can succeed.”

Dame has been quoted saying; “My job isn’t to make money off of other people, my job is to empower people to build their own empires.”

A quick google of the names I mentioned above will show the empires they have gone on to build for themselves. In my experience, a large majority of “bosses” teach the people they work with to be dependent on them. This is not the case with Dame Dash and not the case at the PMG alike!
