Ahead of BBC 1Xtra Live, which takes place at the O2 Arena in London tonight. We speak to the PMG’s Seani B – the resident 1Xtra Dancehall DJ and presenter who will be front and centre at the event.
How are you feeling ahead of 1Xtra Live this coming Saturday?
SB: I’m always excited for 1Xtra Live; it’s always one of the biggest moments of the year for 1Xtra. I always kick it off opening up which is great and im mega excited it’s in my hometown of London!
1Xtra Live has returned home to London after going to different cities over the past few years, does the buzz feel bigger when it comes back?
SB: I’m not too sure if the buzz is bigger – it’s the capital but I always get excited to visit different cities and get out of town and meet the listeners from around the country. I’m defo happy to be home though – it’s a proud feeling to do what I do in London.
The lineup is one of strongest this year, who are you most looking forward to seeing?
SB: Of course Popcaan, he always puts on a show! I worked hard this year to get Dancehall represented on the bill, I was a part of the process so it’s good to see it’s paid off.
You’re hosting once again, what can we expect and do you have any routines or superstitions you do before a big night?
SB: No superstitions, no routines, nothing. As always I walk in, I analyse the crowd and I shell!! It’s never planned, it’s all about the vibe. I pick the first record and we go from there.
Also on the bill features the likes of Chance The Rapper, Pusha T, Jorja Smith, Chip, Ella May, Mist, Mr Eazi, and Yxng Bane.
1Xtra Live will be streamed on the 1Xtra website live and will be broadcasted on BBC Radio 1Xtra, Radio 1 and Asian Network from 7pm.
